A post on a professional network has opened with the phrase “I don’t usually share this,” before sharing it, marking the fourth such reluctance from the same author since June.

The post runs to eleven paragraphs, each consisting of one sentence, arranged vertically for impact.

“He does usually share this,” said former colleague Nell Trebeck. “This is the thing he shares.”

The narrative describes a setback, a lesson, and a pivot, concluding with a question inviting the reader’s thoughts.

The Institute for Professional Performance identifies the structure as near-universal.

“Every post is the same post,” said Dr. Fabrizio Lund. “Something went wrong. Someone said something wise, usually a taxi driver. The author now understands leadership. Thoughts?”

Institute analysis found that 62 per cent of such anecdotes contain a stranger who delivers a perfectly formed insight and is never seen again.

“The stranger is doing extraordinary work,” Lund said. “Across the entire network, we estimate the same four people are responsible for every realisation anyone has ever had.”

The post has received two hundred reactions and eleven comments, nine of which say “This.”

The author has replied to each one, individually, with a folded-hands symbol.
